The History Behind St. Croix Cleaners
St Croix Cleaners was established in 1960 by Bill and Jean Clemmings with one store in Stillwater, MN. Jean was proud of her first dry cleaning machine that was a self-service, coin-operated machine in the Laundromat. They quickly expanded to a full-service dry cleaner and laundry plant. In 2001, Dave and Polly Nemec bought the business with two stores in the Stillwater area.
Since then the Nemec’s have increased the business to encompass the entire East Metro area, including Woodbury, Cottage Grove and Hudson, bringing the total number of stores to 10. In 2008, St Croix Cleaners opened a specialty cleaning division, “Treasured Garment Restoration” which focuses on vintage restoration, bridal gowns, theater costumes and more. They have since become nationally renowned for their specialty cleaning, receiving vintage garments from places as far away as London, Boston and California.
Currently, St Croix Cleaners continues to be a family-owned and operated, earth-friendly dry cleaner. They have more than a dozen store locations throughout the Twin Cities Metro area, and continues to value high quality dry cleaning and superior customer service.
